Photos. 8vo, sewn decorative Japanese cloth wrappers with orange chop; illustrated with many B&W glossy photos illustrating each sale entry (a few photos having extra foldouts; one four-piece foldout), all with identifications Japanese, and about a third of the items with text facing illustrations; ~ 176 pages. JAPANESE TEXT THROUGHOUT. Contains black & white photos of many superb items: swords, cabinets, decorated bowls, lacquerware, scholarly desk items, household goods, and art (e.g., a few Buddhist pieces, painted silk screens, panels, & calligraphy) collected by wealthy, important Prince Matsukata. <br/> <br/> Prince Matsukata Masayoshi ( , 25 February 1835 - 2 July 1924) was a Japanese politician who was Prime Minister of Japan from 1891 to 1892 and 1896 to 1898. <br/> <br/> One son became the head of Kawasaki Heavy Industries and devoted much of his fortune to acquiring masterpieces of Western art for the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo. A daughter, Haru Matsukata, married the US <br/> Ambassador to Japan, Edwin Reischauer.<br/> <br/> SCARCE pre-1930's Art & Objects Catalogue. Nearly as Fine as the day it was published and bound. Traces of finger flipping of catalogue pages at upper right of pages. Slight uniform age-toning to paper. No foxing or other blemishes. Slight loosening to binding cords but catalogue still retains its integrity. Apart from one light pencil entry identifying the sale as that of Prince Matsukata, there are no other extraneous markings. <br/> <br/> A worthy collection to review.
