Green cloth with publisher's printed title label on spine and on front cover listing title and author, lacking title page, which had been neatly excised), one of the six lined pages is present, headed 'Lucy Gayheart' at top margin, the other five lined subscription pages have been neatly excised and are lacking, followed by circa 200 blank pages as described by bibliographer.
Spine is sunned, publisher's label is tanned, very good or better, although defective, presumably due to excising the pages of subscriber's names in order to process the subscription orders. A scarce title in this pre-publication publisher's salesman's dummy [see *Crane* A20.a.i note, stating: "A salesman's dummy, containing no text, is in first edition binding... It has a notice printed on the open endpaper recto... The only other printed matter in the book is a title page followed by 6 pages of lined spaces for subscription orders..."].
