Sobre este artículo
Ottawa. Environment Canada. Fisheries and Marine Service. 1974. Deluxe Edition. Folio (12 1/2 x 9). 79 pp. This book of The Salmon is one of a few copies prepared and presented by Environment Canada in appreciation and gratitude to the folks who created, designed, and then produced the visually attractive Salmon Portfolios presented to the Heads of State and other government worthies representing 150 countries at the Third United Nations The Law of the Sea Conference convened in Caracas, Venezuela, in June 1974. It is briefly inscribed and signed by L. H. Legault (the books editor] on the front fly leaf. The portfolios, hand crafted in oak and cloth, held the same Haig-Brown book, The Salmon, along with several large color prints of salmon; the portfolios were formally presented to foreign government officials a month ahead of the conference in a concerted public relations campaign to influence governments to support Canadas position of enacting a 200 mile coastal limitation on high seas fisheries - Canadas Pacific and Atlantic salmon stocks were decimated by long-line and net fishing, primarily by ships flagged from Japan and Denmark. "States in whose rivers salmon spawn have primary rights to the salmon" was a guiding principle for the Canadian delegates./////////// Roderick Haig-Brown's text is a passionate plea to save and restore the salmon stocks. The book has a series of color plates showing both Atlantic and Pacific salmon, highlighting their importance and vitality to Canada, especially for native cultures who for centuries have depended on returning spawning salmon for their existence. Colored maps and diagrams show the routes salmon travel during their time at sea. About this book: The binding was crafted by Pierre Poussier, a master book binder whose work has won numerous awards and who was an instructor at Ecole; he was also the premier binder at the Montreal firm of Vianney Belanger. Belanger was commissioned by the Canadian government in early 1974 to complete the binding of the deluxe copies bound in morocco spine and marbled paper over boards for the 150 deluxe salmon portfolios as well as this special separate edition bound in morocco spine and marbled boards, issued in a very small number. The binding is signed by Vianney Belanger. The text was printed on mould-made paper; color plates printed on glossy white stock. The book is bound in brown morocco spine with four raised hubs, blind rules, and gilt titles; marbled boards with double gilt rules. Matching marbled end papers. A beautiful book. Fine..

Sobre Bruce Cave Fine Fly Fishing Books
Bruce Cave Fine Books specializes in quality fishing books – particularly fly fishing for trout, steelhead, Pacific and Atlantic salmon, striped, black, and smallmouth bass plus any other fish that’ll eat a well-dressed fly; fresh and salt water fishing anywhere on the planet, ranging from picky rainbows in the North Fork of the Feather River near Chester in Northern California to five hundred pound river monsters at Cao Lh in the Mekong Delta. That’s me in the top photo at age 10 in 1957 on the steps of our now gone cabin at Prattville on the west shore of Lake Almanor (it was elegant) – I’m holding the largest trout I’ve ever caught (seven pounds), and needed my grandfather’s helping hand to do it; that fish caught my imagination. And that’s me in the second photo taken in late October 2014 on the same cabin steps, 57 years later, holding an imaginary fish. Between the intervening years I realized that reading about fishing could be nearly as good as fishing itself. I also came to know that fly fishing can be a metaphor for life; there are those moments in fishing that require neither stream nor fish, and sometimes the least important thing about fly fishing is the fishing. Now it’s catch and release for the most part – time spent in rivers and lakes together with age encourages it. Fly fishing is timeless; fishermen aren’t. I think Robert Traver had it right: I fish ‘because maybe one day I will catch a mermaid’; and I ‘don’t regard fishing as being so terribly important but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant - and not nearly so much fun.' A life of fly fishing is beautiful and simple. I’m always interested in purchasing good books, booklets, pamphlets, catalogues, brochures and other ephemera on these subjects and encourage you to either email me at brucecave@comcast.net or telephone 916.728.5019. Sincerely, Bruce Cave.
