Author of the famous Utopian satire Erewhon, Samuel Butler was a Victorian author known for research into English orthodoxy, literary and art history, and evolutionary thought. Complete in two volumes. In a tree calf binding with gilt detail. Externally, light bumping to the spine. Joints failed and boards detached but present for vol I. Front joint starting but sound to front vol II. Rear joint starting and near loose to vol II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean. Light spotting to title and plates of vol I and to title of vol II. Fair

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
