Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Samuel Johnson. Includes appendices and an index. Dispels the legend that Samuel Johnson, the 18th century scholar, was distrusting of science, and sheds new light on attitudes towards science and morality during the 18th century. A touch of foxing to the top textblock; jacket is price clipped, with a tiny closed tear to bottom of the front panel.
