Sobre este artículo

San Francisco: San Francisco Opera Association, 1937. First Edition. Staplebound printed wraps. Good +. 8vo. Pp. 48, followed by two-pp. ads. The chief production is Wagner's "Lohengrin" presented at the War Memorial Opera House. Details on an upcoming performance of "Rigoletto" are printed, too. Loaded with sophisticated ads that reflect an opera-going society seemingly immune to the effects of the Great Depression. Slight general wear. Featuring Lauritz Melchior as Lohengrin, Kirsten Flagstad as Elsa of Brabant, Julius Huehn as Frederick of Telramund, Kathryn Meisle as Ortrud, Ludwig Hofmann as Henry the Fowler and Billie Hetrick as Gottfried. Symphony conducted by Fritz Reiner. The roster of board members is a Blue Book 100 of San Francisco families. Now housed in an archival mylar sleeve with backing.

Sinopsis

"Howl" was originally written as a performance piece by a young, new poet, Allen Ginsberg.  When published by poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti in 1956, Howl broke so many social taboos that copies were impounded as obscene, and  Ferlinghetti arrested. In 1957 the courts ruled that the poem was not obscene, and "Howl" went on to become the most popular poem of the Beat Generation. I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix; Angel-headed hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night.
