HC soundly bound in original quarter calf leather backed spine and pictorial paper covered boards. Leather a little rubbed and scuffed over front joint edge. Light shelf rubbing to paper at board edges. A light area of soiling from a spill to the front edge of about 15 leaves mid-book and expected offset toning to page stock from the letterpress printing. Light stress crease across the top front corner of the cover board. Attractive 1857 gift inscription to front endpage. Illustrated throughout with in-text woodcuts. VG- .
