Originally the trade route with Mexico, this trail connecting Santa Fe with Missouri also served as the 1846 invasion route during the Mexican-American War, and then again as the major trade route until the introduction of the railroad in New Mexico in 1880. A good copy, gilt lettering on spine and cover, binding shaken but sound, corners slightly frayed, spine rubbed & a bit faded, without dust jacket, front hinge split, contents clean save for light markings on page facing half title.
