The product of many years of research by the great Greek folklorist Angeliki Hatzimichali, her now out-of-print study of the Sarakatsans will be reissued fifty years its first publication. The first volume includes an introduction to the five volume work by Ang. Hatzimichali, and deals with the geographical spread, nationality, name and nomadic nature of the Sarakatsans, also providing introductory information about their art and intellectual and social life. The second volume is a reissue of portion of the historical 1957 edition, which was the result of extensive on-site research and bibliographical investigation undertaken by the great Greek folklorist. It includes chapters that refer to the stane – the sheepfold, and the kalyvia or konakia – the huts, in other words, describing the financial and housing organisation of the Sarakatsans.
