Sobre este artículo

London: Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1937. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 8.5" by 5.5". Not Stated. A first edition, first impression of this work combining history, ethnography and travel account, set in Vanuatu, by the polymath Tom Harrisson. The first edition, first impression of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Illustrated with a frontispiece, thirty-one plates, numerous in-text illustrations and a folding map to the rear. Collated, complete.A historical and cultural survey of Vanuatu, or the New Hebrides as it was known then, by the British polymath Tom Harrisson (1911-1976). This work is divided into two parts: in the first, Harrisson discusses the history and culture of Vanuata, and in the second, he focuses on his own experiences. According to Rod Edmond, the title of this work was used to cause readers to consider the oppositional terms 'savage' and 'civilisation'; indeed, this work is well-regarded as a scholarly work which bridges the gap between anthropology and cultural studies. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally sound, with a couple of small marks to the front board. Shelf wear to the joints and extremities. Front free end paper to page 19 coming loose but intact. Otherwise, internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good
