London: [Curwen Press], 1923. Hardcover. Very Good. Fraser, Claud Lovat. Quarto size, 33 pp. Sir George Reeves-Smith (1863-1941), an English hotelier who managed the Savoy Hotel in London and founded the Hotels and Restaurants Association in 1910, made this guide to places in London for tourists staying in his hotel. The book guides readers through the sights visible from the windows of the Savoy Hotel, and paints a beautiful and engaging picture of London in the early twentieth century. Included are fascinating historical accounts relating to the monuments and landmarks discussed in the book and lovely photographs of each scene by Hugh Cecil (1890-1974), a successful portrait photographer who photographed many actors and members of royalty. Decorative tailpieces are by Claud Lovat Fraser (1890-1921), an artist who often worked with the Curwen Press and created many designs for bookplates and greeting cards. ___DESCRIPTION: Decorative paper covered boards, title on the front board with black lettering and orange border, New Year's Greeting from Mr. G. Reeves-Smith on the page following the title page, six photographic reproductions tipped in, black tailpieces throughout; quarto size (11.25" by 8"), pagination: [1-5] 6-27 [28] 29 [30] 31 [32], colophon [33]. ___CONDITION: Volume is very good, with a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean with slight toning, and entirely free of prior owner marks; boards with overall soiling, some wear to the spine with small loss to the head of the spine, paper covering the spine is beginning to loosen in several spots, and the corners slightly rubbed.
