Signed on the front free endpaper by Wilson and dated 1881, the year of publication. Contains a sheet of paper with notations, ostensibly Wilson's. Occasional margin lines and notations in Wilson's shorthand. On May 10, 1881, Wilson wrote to his cousin Harriet Woodrow: "I practice elocution hard and systematically every day. I intend to spare no trouble in gaining complete command of my voice in reading and speaking." Robert Alexander Kraig, in Woodrow Wilson and the Lost World of the Oratorical Statesman does not include Hamill in his chapter on Wilson's oratorical education. Staining, wear, Good. . Good.
