Preface by author, acknowledgements, list of illustrations, scheme of graphs, bibliographical note, subject index and name index. Black and white illustrated frontispiece – that of a self-reported by Leonardo da Vinci. The text is illustrated with black-and-white line drawings, maps, and reproductions of illustrations. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Title says it all. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with fading and staining also present. Bumping, rubbing and fraying of the book corners; with rubbing of the book edges and panels. Rubs marks and stains to the book panels – rear panel worse than front panel. Age toning of the text block edges and pages with offset tanning and very nasty foxing of the end pages. Previous owners details to the top right hand corner of the free front end page.
