New York.: Charles Scribner's Sons.. 12- 1903.. Magazine in paper wraps, text pp 639-768; advertising pages (eccentrically numbered) 1-148. Fiction includes Edith Warton's "A Venetian Night's Entertainment" illustrated by Maxfield Parrish (one color plate). A very special feature is "A Child in the Garden," eight full-page color illustrations by Jessie Wilcox Smith. Also an illustration and commentary titled "[John Singer] Sargent's New Wall Painting" at the Boston Public Library. Covers in poor condition, with taped repair and abraded edges; one advertising page has a circular excision in the center of the page. A very special piece of advertising is the chromolithograph plate titled "His Master's Voice" depicting a dog staring into the "sound" apparatus on a Victor Talking Machine. Another interesting but grim ad (half-page) pictures Santa Clause "loaded down with Stevens Rifles, Pistols, and Shotguns for the youth of the land." Overall good condition. An uncommon copy of Christmas Number for 1903. .
