Sobre este artículo
London: Printed for J. and F. Rivington, in St. Paul's Church-yard, 1773. Full Calf. Fine. First and only edition of this attempt to describe the method of God's creation through the words of the Bible, touching on the geology of the earth, its mountains, seasons, and rainbows, before and after the Deluge. Crown 8vo (204 x 126mm): vi,[2],502,[2]pp, with engraved folding map of the Garden and Land of Eden, half-title, errata, and final advertisement leaf. Full contemporary calf, spine in six compartments between double-ruled gilt raised bands, later brown morocco letter piece gilt. Engraved armorial book plate of George Bonsall ("Pro Patria") to front paste-down. Fresh, wide-margined copy (worm tracks far from text to outer margins of a few leaves, else virtually pristine) in period binding. Lowndes V, 2996 ("a man of very considerable learning and independence of mind"). Maslen and Lancaster 4990. Worthington was a Church of England clergyman and religious writer, who published on various theological issues. His brief entry in the ODNB makes no mention of this title, and indeed the book is scarce in commerce, with only one recorded at auction by RBH, in 1871; the Bowyer ledgers record only 500 copies printed. According to the Land of Eden map, Eden was located in what is now Iraq. N. B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with carefully preserved in archival, removable mylar sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed.
