The first Bewick illustrated edition of Thomson's famous collection of poems, The Seasons in a lovely original binding. Direct from the library at Newton Hall, the 18th century country house and estate in Northumberland, with a pencil shelfmark to the fro Bound in leather with gilt lettering and decoration. A New Edition, Ornamented with Engravings on Wood by Thomas Bewick, from Designs of Mr. Thurston. Includes the Life of James Thomson by Samuel Johnson, as referenced by COPAC. With Joseph Cook"s armorial bookplate on the front pastedown, and copperplate ink signature to the title page. Reverend Joseph Cook of Newton-on-the-Moor, d.1844, was vicar of Chatton and Shilbottle, and held the estate at Newton Hall, Northumberland. He married Sarah Widdrington in 1786. With six engraved plates of the original nine. Bound in leather with gilt lettering and decoration. There is only very mild wear to the extremities, with just very mild rubbing. Internally the pages are generally clean and bright, with slight browning and the occasional spot, prominent to the first and last few pages. The binding is generally tight and firm. Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
