Winston Churchill's best selling magnum opus in the unabridged Cassell paperback edition. He wrote with much assistance from a large number of distinguished aides, some of whom Churchill is modest enough to name in his acknowledgements. He was greatly helped by a concession from the Attlee government that Churchill could be granted privileged access to government documents, although he could not reveal official secrets. Historians inevitably have presented differing views with time and, obviously, the author gives his own points of view at all times, nevertheless, the work is absolutely indispensable and written in Churchill's inimitable style with wit, insight and fairness.
