Sobre este artículo

Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1983. Chartwell Edition. All six volumes are in fine condition in recent 1/2 blue leather and light tan cloth covered boards with gilt text on the spine and a recessed paper label on the front boards. The end papers are decorated with maps of Europe and the Pacific theater. All volumes are octavos measuring 9 by 6 inches with a light yellow stain to the top edges of the text blocks. This stain and the absence of the blind embossed dot at the lower corner of the rear boards distinguishes this set as not being one of the more frequently seen Book-of-The-Month Club printings. The set includes: Vol. I is The Gathering Storm, with 784 pages; Vol. II is Their Finest Hour, with 751 pages, The Grand Alliance, with 903 pages is volume III; Vol. IV is The Hinge of Fate, with 1000 pages; Volume V is Closing the Ring, with 749 pages; and, Volume VI is Triumph and Tragedy, with 800 pages. An extremely clean and handsome set with no prior owner's names, dates or notations.

Sinopsis

Dealing with war on a giant scale, THE GRAND ALLIANCE focuses on events as Britain, after fighting a desperate battle alone, was joined in the struggle against the enemy by Soviet Russia and the United Sates. Hitler's invasion of Russia brought to an end a period of almost exactly a year during which Britain and her Empire had stood alone. Six months later, the United States, attacked by Japan, joined the war and the Grand Alliance was born. It was a momentous turn in the course of the war and Sir Winston Churchill noted, 'United we could subdue everybody else in the world. Many disasters, immeasurable cost and tribulation lay ahead, but there was no more doubt about the end.'

Reseñas

El Oct 16 2010, ElectricEel dijo:
There is no doubt that Winston Churchill was a great stylist, and if you can only read one history of World War II, you should probably read this one. On the other hand, although I don't know if there are any outright lies in this book, he does deem occasionally filter the truth to suit his political convenience.
