Of three noted binding styles, this is believed to be the second issue. 253 pp. Ink name on front free endpaper, along with a small bookseller's ticket from Watkins in Cecil Court; spine panel & edges of covers a bit faded. Spine lettering very bright; a very good, clean, attractive copy.

¶ A collection of Occult Detective stories. "Dr. Taverner' runs a nursing home for people with unusual mental disorders. He is assisted in the care of these patients by Dr. Rhodes, the medical superintendent, and narrator of the stories. The tales run the gamut of the occult and the supernatural and include vampirism, astral projection, necromancy, cursed objects, spirit communication, spectral manifestations, and very often mind control. A classic collection, rare in the first edition.
