London: printed by W. Bowyer and J. Nichols: for T. Cadell, In The Strand, 1772.. Hardcover. Good. Octavo. Two volumes. I: xi, [i], 244pp.; II: vii, [i], 279, [i]pp. With the half-titles present. The final page is an advertisement. Second edition. Pages 1-57 of the first volume include 'Dr. Sprat's life of Mr. Cowley.' The editor's preface is signed 'R. Hurd.' Contemporary, calf, worn. All edges yellow. ESTC N21756; Maslen and Lancaster. Bowyer ledgers 4937. Bowyer's and Nichols's records show 750 copies were printed. There is a manuscript entry on the front free endpaper of volume I: "From the Author.' Cowley had been dead more than a century when this work was published. The writing does not match Hurd's hand. Sprat had died in 1713.
