Cloth Wiith Dustjacket. 1st novel about a sexually repressed homosexual army sergeant who ends up in a bad way, as was the case with most gay and lesbian characters in the novels and movies of the time. Made into a film ten years later & one year before Stonewall. Large critical blurb by John Steinbeck of all people. The white dustjacket has usual light wear, soiiling + a 1 inch tear to the top of the front panel. Fine/vg.
