Fifty songs reproduced in facsimile from original or early editions. This boxed collection dates to 1936. Each page has information about the history of the song, sheet music and lyrics. Issued in 51 unbound parts, each consisting of a sheet folded to form 2 or 3 leaves. The first part contains title, preface and contents; each of the others contains a song in facsimile, with appended notes.
In near fine condition, in a box.
Note: The collection contains a number of blackface minstrelsy songs, an early American theatrical form characterized by deeply racist stereotypes. The images and lyrics are offensive. The collection is offered in the spirit of scholarship to those interested in early American music.
