London: Printed for the author and sold by John Gray, 1742 A fair copy of the 1st edition in later half calf binding with 7 plates. A fascinating read today, being an account of a mixture of mythical and real animals - including descriptions of dragons. The binding is in good to very good condition with gilt titles and gilt ruled lines to spine and lightly marbled boards. There is some light scuffing and wear. There is an armorial bookplate to the front pastedown with the motto 'durum sed fortissimum' and the name 'Stones' to the top. The endpapers are also newer but the paper has been chosen to match the rest of the volume. This copy inscribed, signed and dated by the author in ink to the front free endsheet. Brilliantly illustrated with full page colour plates and further by full page monochrome plates and vignettes en texte. This copy one of only 750 which bears the special folding colour plate listing subscribers names at rear. Short vertical fold along a portion of fore-edge of special plate, else a Fine bright pristine copy of this exceptionally rare limited and inscribed edition. London: Rowland Ward, Limited, 1908. First Edition . Cloth - Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 115 pages. Blue cloth with gilt stamped lettering and photograph in-lay. Top edge is gilded. Covers show just a hint of rubbing, and remain bright and clean. Book plate of J. H. Bullard on front paste down, and his inked name with the date of 1922 is seen on the first blank page following free end page. Small book seller's decal at bottom of front free end page, and light rubbing/scuffs can be seen on the same page. Volume remains tight and is otherwise bright and clean. A lovely copy of this scarce title.

Good condition, with some chipping along outside hinges, but holding; and normal wear to corners. Title page of first part printed in red and black. Lower right corner of title page to second part torn and missing, but not affecting text; and minor old insect damage to lower portion of same; date and other particulars still very readable. Engraved bookplate of Henry Maister (of an early English mercantile family).

Stratford upon Avon: Printed and sold by J. Ward, 1817 Book. Good. Full leather. Vol 3, the Appendix was published in 1821 by Longman. Pagination Vol 1 - [iv], ix, [i], 361, [1] pages + 3 plates. Vol 2 - [iv], [363]-795, [1] pages + 5 plates but plate facing page 692 duplicates that facing page 573. Vol 3 - xiv, [ii], 333, [vi], 336-575, [1] pages +30 plates. All bound in attractive full leather, creasing to the spine of vol 3. Some light wear. Ink owner's name to the front free end paper in each volume. Lacks one plate due to the duplication in vol 2..

London: John Murray, 1869. Fifth (Tenth Thousand). Good. Considered one of the most important books every published, any edition (there were six) of The Origin of Species that was published during Darwin's lifetime (he died in 1882) is exceptionally sought after, since the print runs were relatively small for such a significant work Only 10,000 copies were printed cumulatively through this fifth edition (which was for only 2,000 copies) This copy was custom bound in full leather with gilt tooling, but the spine and front board are loose and the back board has detached But the hinge breaks are clean and should be repairable The text block is very sound however, and except for the hinge detachments, the leather binding is in relatively good condition There is modest foxing on the ffeps, but otherwise the contents are in very good condition with only minor age toning The edges are marbled, as are the endpapers.
