Rear hinge starting but mostly intact. Corners and edges of boards are quite worn but still a nice copy. The last page states -End of the First Volume- There are some old light moisture stains but all text quite legible. 464pp.

Boston Revolutionary War patriot and Arnold Arboretum contributor Benjamin Bussey's copy with his oval printed bookplate on the front pastedown, and his circular inkstamp to title page. xliv pp. + folding map + 304 pp. + xxxvi pp. + [2] pp. + [4] folding pp. + 20 pp. 8vo., mottled calf with gilt spine ornaments, rules and gilt leather spine label. Joints cracked, label and spine chipped. First blank page and following half-title detached, laid in. Occasional light foxing. Map has closed tear at joint with no loss, and moderate foxing. Bussey, in addition to having served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War, was a merchant, farmer and horticulturist; his Forest Hills estate was eventually made part of Harvard's Arnold Arboretum.

Giovanni Battista Rinuccini was a 17th-century Italian archbishop who is best known for his diplomatic representation to Ireland and Scotland during the Irish Confederate Wars. It was during his time in the British Isles that he gained an understanding of Scotland, which helped him write his most famous book 'The Scottish Friar. This book is a tale of the life and ecclesiastical history of George Leslie, a Scottish monk.
