The Settlement and Early History of Albany

Brown wrappers, octavo, pp. 100. Edition limited to 300 copies (see Bibliotheca Munselliana, page 127). Several plans and illustrations. Some pages unopened. Originally printed by Munsell in 1851 as a twenty-five page pamphlet in an edition of 300 copies (see Edelstein, page 197) after the author was awarded a prize by the Young Men's Association for Mutual Improvement in the City of Albany in December, 1850. That original edition "having been exhausted, and much inquiry made for it," Munsell reprinted in 1864. Author William Barnes was a great admirer of Munsell, saying in a special meeting at the Albany Institute on 16 January 1880, the day after Munsell's death: "There was not a living publisher whose record for fine artistic work could excel that of Joel Munsell . . . ." (Edelstein, 183). This copy FAIR-only. Wraps are fragile and quite tattered along the spine, nearly detached from the text block.
