Copy number 507 of 675 numbered sets. 8 frameable plates and an essay, four unnumbered pages, "The Conservatism of Charles M. Russell" by J. Frank Dobie. All reproduced in the original size and brought together in a portfolio by CARL HERTZOG (for C.R. Smith) at El Paso, Texas. Tweedweave dusty red paper portfolio, with two color printed title lable to upper panel. The prints and text measure 22 x 15 inches and are printed on Diploma parchment. 8 plates which includes the Tom Lea view of a cowboy and horse pausing to watch as an airplane flies over, are all in fine condition. The portfolio has some tiny scattered spots and wear.
Rarely seen for sale, the drawings are: Before This He Only Had Wolves Broke to Pack or Drag a Travois, Blackfeet Trading Party in Signt of Fort Benton, Cheyennes Watching Union Pacific Track Layers, A Diamond R Mule Team of the '70s, Pawnees See Water Monster, A Pony Express Rider Attacked by Indians, and A Swing Station on the Overland.

SMITH, CYRUS ROWLETT (18991990). Cyrus Rowlett (C. R.) Smith, president and cofounder of American Airlines, was born in the small cotton-farming community of Minerva, Texas, on September 9, 1899, one of seven children of Roy E. and Marion Burch Smith. on the cover of Time magazine in 1958, and in 1961 he was one of only ten Americans to receive the Horatio Alger Award for his admirable ascent from austere beginnings. In addition to aviation Smith also had a strong love of the Old West and donated 575 volumes of Western Americana, now known as the Marian Burch Smith Collection, to the University of Texas library.
The University of Texas Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center houses the C. R. Smith Collection of Western Art, valued at approximately $2 million. Smith died on April 4, 1990, and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Image size: 320 x 260 mm (12½ x 10¼ inches). Within frame and under glass. Total size in frame: 400 x 460 mm. Marie Therese Robert was an Art Deco student at 'Academie Julian' in Paris in the early 1930's. The Academie still exists today, and is now known as ESAG Penninghen. Finland: Self-published, 1947. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. An attractive and early, small drypoint by Tuulikki Pietilä (1917-2009), Finland's most influential graphic artist of the 20th Century. Numbered 7/15 (lower left) and hand-signed/dated in pencil in 1947 by the artist (middle to lower right). Framed and under glass, the frame measures 24cm x 28cm approx. Image measures 7 cm x 7 cm approx. A portrait of a small boy named "Georg" in the image but at the back on the label to verso the title of the work is recorded as "Jori" which is a Finnish nickname for Georg. The print appears to be in VG to Fine condition, not examined under frame. Original backing with label to verso. The frame is a simple wooden one with a small chip right edge near middle, a few smaller ones on the surface of the edges and a few other minor marks, condition commensurate with age - likely to be the original.

Glintenkamp WOODCUTS 6 woodcut illustrations included, Twain frontis (Three old friends), and 5 other historic and realistic woodcut illustrations. MEMOIRS. HISTORY OF NEVADA GOLDRUSH. Summary: Mr. Gillis was a friend of American author/humorist Mark Twain and was with him at Virginia, Nevada in the Goldrush days. In 1859 placer miners in the Great Basin discovered the largest gold and silver strike that had happened in the United States up until that time. RARE H. Glintenkamp WOODCUTS. Used.
