Sobre este artículo

[S.l.]: Chez l'artiste, 1968. Limited edition of 50. Loose prints in a paper folder and laid into a stiff backed, string tied folder. Fine/Near Fine. A suite of seven intaglio prints, each signed and dated by the artist, printed on Arches Velin paper. The seven prints are loose, as issued, in a folder of Arches Velin heavyweight stock with titling recto, and colophon to recto after the fold, this folder, with the 7 prints inside, is housed in a chemise of rust colored linen over boards, green end papers and ribbon ties at North, South and East. Images are approx. 3 x 4 inches, sheets measure approx 10 x 12 inches. From the limitation page: "Printed in Paris in the autumn of 1968 by Leacouriere Frelaut, under the artist's supervision from his original intaglio-colograph zinc plates. The edition consists of 50 suites of seven prints numbered from 1/50 to 50/50, printed on Velin Arches paper." It goes on to mention an additional edition of 12 suites. This copy is signed by the artist below this declaration and numbered 29/50 in his hand. Each print is also signed and numbered by the artist just under each image. Finally, the folder is additionally inscribed by the artist's wife Judith, in 2001 : "For Sylvan Cole, who inspired Bernard to do this suite. Love, Judith. New York 4.xii.2001." Sylvan Cole was extraordinary art dealer in New York City in the 30's and 40's; he was a tireless evangelist for the print medium, especially as a means of getting fine art into the homes of middle class collectors. He is credited with virtually single handedly creating a market for prints at a time when they were considered not worthy of serious consideration. A great association. Condition of the prints is Fine; they are fresh and vibrant, with original tissue guards. The paper folder shows mild toning at edges. Condition of the cloth outer folder is Very Good+ with a few faint scuffs and a sticker ghost on the upper right corner. The first line of Bernard Child's Wikipedia page reads: "Bernard Childs (1910-1985) was an artist who worked in Paris and New York. He was primarily a painter and printmaker, and pioneered the direct engraving of metal plates with power tools." You have to give respect to any artist who pioneered the direct engraving of metal plates with power tools. Selected public collections with holdings of Childs work include: Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris Ishibashi Foundation, Tokyo (formerly the Bridgestone Gallery) Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York Grey Art Gallery, New York University, New York Hood Museum of Art, Hanover, New Hampshire Israel Museum, Jerusalem Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Moderna Museet, Stockholm National Portrait Gallery, Stockholm National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC The National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo Princeton University Museum of Art, Princeton, New Jersey San Francisco Fine Arts Museums, Palace of the Legion of Honor, Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts Smith College Museum of Art & the Mortimer Rare Book Room, Northampton, Massachusetts Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam The Hyde Collection, Glens Fall, New York The Library of Congress, Washington D.C.
