Sobre este artículo
New York: Harper & Row, 1965. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. 324 p. Frontispiece portrait, with textual illustrations. First American edition. Full-length biography of Henry Wriothesley, the third Earl of Southampton (1573-1624), Shakespeare's acknowledged patron to whom the poet and playwright dedicated his long poems Venus and Adonis (1593) and The Rape of Lucrece (1594). After a period of youthful indiscretion in which he nearly lost his head because of his collaboration with Essex in the conspiracy against Elizabeth I, Southampton became a leading statesman during the reign of James I, and a champion of American colonization. Signed by Rowse on the title page and inscribed by him on the half-title to the distinguished Southern California historian Doyce B. Nunis, Jr. Octavo. Original black and red cloth binding, with gilt stamping. Just a hint of edgewear to the dust jacket; else fine. Inscribed by Author.
