S. edition published by Stokes; one of 200 copies, 1750 copies were printed of the UK first edition published by Harrap, this is the simultaneous US printing by Stokes, one of 250 copies, with Stokes imprint on spine panel of DJ and book and on title page, "Printed in Great Britain" printed on inside of DJ. Cloth and boards are immaculate, gilt on spine still brilliant, no fraying to cloth but paper covering tips and bottom edges of boards has frayed due to weight of book. Hinges tight but title page professionally re-attached. DJ is clean but worn along top and bottom edges with loss at top of spine and adjacent top edge of panels for a length of 4 3/8", up to 3/4" deep, removing most of "The Ship" in title; V-chip at bottom of rear spine fold, up to 1 7/8" deep and up to 1 3/4" deep, removing all but the "E" in the publisher's name; squarish chip at bottom of front flap, up to 1" wide and up to 1 1/8" deep; 1/4" rectangular chip near upper tip of front panel, with 1" tear to corner; light chipping at corners. Reverse of DJ had clear tape reinforcement along much of folds and some of edges, with no show-through on front..
