Edinburgh and London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1909. xiii, 381 frontispiece and a further 47 plates (74 illustrations as listed) with black and white photographs of people and places along the route of the Berlin to Baghdad Railway from Istanbul to Basra with a large fold-out coloured map at the back and 2 pages of adverts for the author's other books at the front and back, a few supplementary maps and tables in the text. Maroon cloth with gilt titles to spine, and illustrative titles to front cover, maroon eps. Map has been restored and returned to its original location leaving tape marks on rear blank and back of map (section of lower margin missing not affecting text), small scars on ffep from tape removal and loss to top of one pl.(158-the bridge at Urfa), short tear at head of spine. Written in pencil on the fpd "Mrs. E.H. Hindley, Presentation Copy from the Author, March 1909", verso of fpd with pencil signature of Denis Wright, (Ambassador to Iran) 25.9.93 with his remarks in pencil on the half-title "Rather long-winded in places but contains some interesting facts & figures about the projected Bahdad/Basra railway, trade, population, Armenian Massacre". The Appendices comprise the text of the Convention de la Societe Imperiale du Chemin de Fer de Baghdad, Cahier de Charges, Statuts and the Convention Additionelle. A good, firm copy. Author Presntation Copy. First. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
