With a short memoir of the life of the author to the front of the volume by the Rev. M. G. Watkins. Charles St John was a naturalist and sportsman of the 19th century. This work explore the nature of the Highlands, and the sport of hunting. A comprehensive look into the wilderness of the Scottish highlands this work touches upon themes from hunting, trapping and poaching, to closer explorations into the nesting and feeding habits of the local wildlife. Illustrated with numerous vignette's throughout. Featuring the work of the following artist: Harrison Weir, Charles Whymper, A. C. Corbould, A. H. Collins, A. T. Elwes and A. H. Hallam Murray. Each engraved on wood by J. W. Whymper. In the pulisher's original cloth binding. Exteranlly light rubbed to the head and tail of the spine, joints and extremities. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spotting. Small tear to the tail of the content page, no more than 0.5 cm. Very Good
