Brady's autobiography, Showman, My Life Story. "FIRST EDITION" so stated on copyright page. Signed and inscribed on front free endpaper verso by Brady to colleague and friend (and legend in her own right) Frances Marion thus: "To an old associate | Frances Marion | a "good fellow" if there | ever was one. With the | kindest regards of | William A. Brady | N.Y.C. St. Patrick's Day | 1940." Marion's personal copy. Bound in 1/2 yellow linen over blue linen with black lettering to front and spine panels. Dust jacket with $3.00 price intact and photo of Brady to back panel. Illustrated with numerous historical photos, including a photo frontis. 278 pp. 8 7/8" x 6 1/8". Tight, otherwise unmarked copy with light shelf wear, sturdy hinges, small area of faint spotting to lower right corner of front panel and very light interior toning. Dust jacket with several small areas of loss and light rubbing overall. A presentable copy of an important autobiography. Among Brady's staggering accomplishments were promoting James J. Jeffries first as an actor in After Dark and later as boxing's World Heavyweight Champion, also managing World Heavyweight Champion James J. Corbett. As a theater producer, he brought over 260 plays to the stage, winning a Pulitzer Prize for Street Scene. "Frances Marion (from Wikipedia) was an American screenwriter, journalist, author, and film director, often cited as one of the most renowned female screenwriters of the 20th century alongside June Mathis and Anita Loos. She was the first writer to win two Academy Awards. Marion began her film career working for filmmaker Lois Weber. She wrote numerous silent film scenarios for actress Mary Pickford, before transitioning to writing sound films." Photographs of or additional information about this item are available on request.
