This famed aviator, the most famed commercial pilot of his day, became chief pilot for Pan American World Airways and flew their inaugural mail flight from Kew West to Havana in 1927; by 1935 he had broken so many records and achieved such reknown that he was featured on the front of "Time" magazine's December 2nd issue; on a cargo and survey flight near Pago Pago, American Samoa, his clipper ship began leaking oil and, while dumping fuel, exploded in flight, killing him and six crew members. Bold full signature in blue fountain pen (complete with rank, "Captain Edwin C. Musick"), 4¼" X 2 3/4" slip, n.p., n.y. Near fine. Faint paper clip imprint visible. A handsome example of this scarce signature.
