"Dear Mrs. Laserte: I greatly dislike writing begging letters but I am as convinced of the great importance of the Boys' Clubs of America that I violate my rule in asking your consideration of a contribution among the many other calls upon you at this time. In this work there are 500 boys' Clubs with more thatn 425,000 boy members in the slum areas of 290 cities throughout the country where we definitely are reducing delinquency, improving health, morals and preparing them for the skilled trades. The are some 3,000,000 such boys and the country is in great need of expansion of this movement. We do no ask for much from any one individual and most gifts are from $10.00 to $25.00. They are, of course, tax deductible. I send you herewith a leaflet which explains the work. I hope it commends itself to you. Faithfully Herbert Hoover. P.S.…

NEILL, JOHN R.. BAUM,L.FRANK. SIGNED LETTER TO JOHN R. NEILL. Offered here is an incredible Oz related letter from Baum to Neill. Typed on Oz Film Manufacturing stationery (L. Frank Baum President) with Neill illustration in the upper corner, the text fills an entire 8/12 x 11 sheet of paper, signed in ink by Baum. The letter begins: "Dear Johnny Neill: Sharpen your pencil, sip an absinthe frappe and try to imagine this character in "The Scarecrow of Oz." It is an Ork, quite a prominent actor in the story, and I quote this introduction from the text: [followed by 28 lines of text]... You will observe the Ork is not a water creature, although it first appeared in a cavern, where it had escaped from the clutches of a whirlpool, as had Trot and Cap'n Bill. During the story it flies thru the air with Trot upon its back. There is also the "Bumpy Man" in the story: a fellow with little bumps all over him.... The principal character [sic] are Trot, Cap'n Bill, Dorothy, Ozma, Glinda, Wizard, Ork, Bumpy Man, Scarecrow, Button Bright, King Krawl, of Jinxland; Princess Gloria, his niece; Googly Gee, a wealthy old courtier; Pen, a gardener's boy; a Wicked Witch named Blinkie. Warm regards; congratulations; affection; admiration--to our Johnny from [signed] L. Frank Baum. Letters such as this with the combination of Oz text and the incredible association between author and artist, rarely appear on the market.

Stuttgart, Germany: Edition Dornberger, 1971. Original folded silkscreen Christmas card . Dated, inscribed, and signed by famed American artist Robert Indiana: "25-XII-'73. Agnes. Greetings. So nice to receive your note--the "Art" sculpture is at Colby for '75 Inaugural (on loan). Bob." Indiana created Christmas cards that he sent to his personal friends, and Agnes almost certainly was the important Canadian-American artist Agnes Martin. I have not yet determined which sculpture is referenced in the note. The silkscreen is in near-fine condtion: clean and bright, with a hint of wear along the folding edge; the fold is slightly askew revealing a bit of the white margin of the note.. SIGNED. Colonial Office, Downing Street, London, 17 July 1922. Letter. This is Winston Churchills 17 July 1922 autograph signed letter to T. E. Lawrence accepting Lawrences resignation from the Colonial Office, accompanied by the original, franked envelope addressed and initialed in Churchills hand. This letter underscores the friendship and collaboration of two titanic twentieth century personalities and their shared work in securing post-First World War peace and political stability in the Middle East. From early 1921 to mid-1922, T. E. Lawrence of Arabia worked for then-Secretary of State for the Colonies Winston S. Churchill. Churchill had asked a reticent Lawrence to commit for a year. He gave Churchill more than he had promised, both in time and in achieved outcomes. Then, in July 1922, Churchill reluctantly released Lawrence from service. The autograph letter signed by Churchill fills the entire 8 x 10 inch (20.3 x 25.4 cm) front panel of a single, folded sheet of Churchills Colonial…
