Sobre este artículo

Hong Kong: University of Hong Kong Museum, 2007. The fabled Silk Road was in fact not one, but several more or less parallel routes stretching between Europe, through intermediary terrain, to China. The northern route, running through the Central Asian and Chinese steppes, was the oldest of these links between East and West; while the peak of activity along the Silk Routes generally occurred in the Tang Dynasty, the prominence of the northern route was greatest in the Yuan, when Genghis Khan ruled vast swathes of Asian territory. The present volume, accompanying a major museum exhibition, vividly demonstrates the significance of the material, military and philosophical transactions that took place over this route. Featuring artefacts from the Tang, Liao and most importantly, Yuan, periods, a wealth of relics are illustrated and described, including sumptuous gold ornaments, coins, gold and silver vessels, bronze statuary, ceramics, and early glass. Of particular note are a group of artefacts reflecting the wide belief in and practice of Nestorian Christianity in China over this period. With essays on Genghis Khan, Nestorian Christianity, Mongol gold art, Yuan ceramics. All text in bilingual English / Chinese. An invaluable reference. 232 pp., 101 colour plates, glossary, bibliography, chronology. *** PLEASE NOTE -- THIS VOLUME IS HEAVY AND MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL POSTAGE. ***. First Edition. Hard bound. New/No Jacket as published. 31 x 23 cm..
