Sobre este artículo

London, UK: Frederick Warne. Reprint, Circa 1880 (?) . Hard Cover/Stitched. Very Good/No Jacket. Text/VG w/trace soiling, one folded corner, and a few open (but strong) hinges. Gilt embossed, illustrated olive green boards/VG w/rubs to edges and corner tips; faint PO name to upper front. DJ/None. Unstated publication date; likely circa 1880. Scottish, writer of adventure stories for the young, Robert Michael Ballantyne (1925 - 1894) who went to Canada in his teens and worked for the Hudson's Bay Company for 6 years before returning home and becoming a writer. This tale is one of some 80 books written. It is the personal story of Robin Gore, a huntsman born and raised in the backwoods of America, and who, at the ripe old age of 40, unable to withstand encroaching "civilization", picks up his wife and two children to move beyond "the most remote settlement" into the wildness. Travelling several hundred miles into the woods, Gore builds three hunt for his family, a nephew and an Irishman, and surrounds it with a tall stockade; he dubbs his new domain, "Fort Enterprise". Their nearest neighbour lives in a "leather tent" 20 miles away. The story begins with the men folk hunting for need food at a time when each step meant sinking at least 6 inches in snow!!! Challenging life. At story's end the reader learns, in time, Fort Enterprise grows to be another flourishing settlement (much to Mrs. Gore's delight). Does then another Robin Gore picks up his family to search again for pristine wilderness?
