Oxford: Pergamon Press, 1979. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/Very good. Inscribed to no recipient in blue ink on the front free endpaper: "Best wishes, Norman Myers." Uncommon signed. Myers (1934-2019) was a prominent British environmentalist who was known especially for highlighting the importance of "biodiversity hotspots," and he also trained his eye on the prospect of environmental refugees. He was named the 2007 Time magazine Hero of the Environment and won at least a half dozen prominent environmental prizes. This book, his first, was an early look at the problem of species loss ("Dr. Myers argues that we may be losing one species per day already") and what can be done about it. Blurbs by Rene Dubos. Paul Ehrlich, and Garrett Hardin among others. A fine book in a very good jacket with some wrinkling to lower portion of rear panel.
