Sinopsis

Carmen got the jeans at a thrift shop. They didn't look all that great; they were worn, dirty, and speckled with bleach. On the night before she and her friends part for the summer, Carmen decides to toss them. But Tibby says they're great. She'd love to have them. Lena and Bridget also think they're fabulous. Lena decides they should all try them on. Whoever they fit best will get them. Nobody knows why, but the pants fit everyone perfectly. Even Carmen (who never thinks she looks good in anything), thinks she looks good in the pants. Over a few bags of cheese puffs they decide to form a sisterhood, and take the vow of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants . . . the next morning, they say good-bye. And now the journey of the pants--and the most memorable summer of their lives--begins.From the Trade Paperback edition.

Reseñas

El Jan 16 2014, un lector dijo:
This is a wonderful first novel. It is, as the Kirkus Review notes “… A feel-good novel of substance …. Move over, Ya-Ya Sisters.” Basically, it is the story of a bunch of 15-year old girls and their first summer of separation. Each of our heroines has a traumatic summer in one way or another, and they provide each other with emotional and logistical support. The girls are Lena, who is so beautiful nobody can quite believe it, but is a total introvert; Carmen, who has a Puerto Rican background and is somewhat defensive about it, as well as being a math freak; Bridget, the athelete; and Tibby, who still secretly loves the gerbil she got when she was 12, and is otherwise pretty normal. These girls have a summer of growing up experiences, and by the time they get together again at the end of the summer, they have all changed substantially. This is a really good read.

Sobre More Than Words Inc.

More Than Words empowers youth who are in foster care, court-involved, homeless or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. MTW believes that when system-involved youth are challenged with authentic and increasing responsibilities in a business setting, and are given high expectations and a culture of support, they can and will address personal barriers to success, create concrete action plans for their lives, and become contributing members of society. More Than Words began as an online bookselling training program for youth in DCF custody in 2004 and opened its vibrant bookstore on Moody St in Waltham in 2005 and added its Starbucks coffee bar in 2008. MTW replicated its model in the South End of Boston in 2011, thereby doubling the number of youth served annually.
