Documents the influence of stagelines on the development of California and the West, with information on Tom Bell and other early stage robbers. Captain Banning's father, Phineas Banning (1830-85), operated a stage coach line between San Pedro and Wilmington, and later between Banning, California, which was named in his honor, and Yuma, Arizona. Includes a foreword by Major Frederick Russell Burnham, D.S.O. 32 pp. photos and illustrations, with seven textual drawings and one map. Presentation copy, inscribed by William Banning on a specially prepared printed label. Octavo. Original black cloth binding, with a stagecoach blind-stamped on the front and red titles. Mild rubbing to the red titles on the spine, with a bit of wear to the corners and tips; else very good. Adams, R.: Six-Guns and Saddle Leather, #134.
