At London printed in Aldergate Street at the signe of the Starre: John Harrison, George Bishop, Rafe Newberie, Henrie Denham and Thomas Woodcocke, 1587 A good copy of the 2nd edition of Holinshed's Chronicles. This edition lacks the extensive woodcuts found in the 1st edition but has beautiful initial capitals and head and tailpieces. Volumes I and II are bound together; Volume III is a single volume. All have been rebound in half calf with gilt lining and title label to spine and marbled boards. Bookplates from the Skipworth family of Newbold-Revel in Warwickshire dating from 1704 through to 1884, have been relaid on the front endpapers of both volumes. Vol I/II has worming. The animals in question have gone vertically through the text block and so little text has been lost, apart from a solitary sideways saunter in the Irish section from p 41 through to p 1 of the Irish History where there loss of some words. Vols I/II are complete apart from lacking the title page to the Description of Ireland and… Leer más

Descripción:
London: T. Cadell, 1794. David Hume's "History of England," written between 1754 and 1761, is rightly considered a masterwork; true lovers of history will read it today. The Scottish novelist Tobias Smollett (1721-1771) felt duty-bound to advance Hume's "History" to a more recent era. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of Volume II only of an eight-volume set. Full leather binding; two black labels; with titling and decorations in gilt. Clean text; 389 pages; with two engraved plates. The text is exceptionally bright, clear, and supple. Typically rubbed at the margins; bumped; chip to head of spine. Starting to split at the edges of the spine, but holding nicely. Despite these flaws, the book is attractive, with a nice presence.. Later Printing. Full-Leather. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

WINNER OF THE PEGASUS PRIZE FOR LITERATURE AND THE BOOKER PRIZE. Used. Very Good/Very Good unclipped original $17.95 dust jacket. Summary: "The Bone People, first published in 1984 by Spiral, New Zealand. About this book: The Bone People is an unusual story of love. It is unusual in the telling, the subject matter, and the form of love that the story depicts. This is in no way a romance; it is filled with violence, fear, and twisted emotions. At the story's core, however, are three people who struggle very hard to figure out what love is and how to find it. Hulme won New Zealand's Pegasus Prize for Literature (1984) for The Bone People. Then the book went on to win the prestigious Booker Prize (1985).
