The scarce first edition of this biographical account of the life of Sarah Tuke Grubb, a Quaker minister, writer and founder of a girls' school in Ireland. The scarce first edition of this work, attributed to the prominent Quaker educator Lindley Murray.Sarah Tuke Grubb started preaching in Quaker congregations at age twenty-two, and after marrying travelled extensively in Europe, as missionaries.Grubb and her husband started a girls' finishing school in Clonmel, Ireland. The school was called the Suir Island School, and later known as the Clonmel School.Grubb died unexpectedly at age thirty-four.ESTC Citation No. T83492. This first edition appeared in two variants with no priority stated. This variant has contents to recto and errata to verso of the leaf following the introduction.With the bookplate of lawyer and book collector David Stather to the front pastedown.A smart copy of this biography of a prominent Irish Quaker. In half calf bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Fading to back strip, with rubbing to boards. Paper label to spine tail. Head and tail of front joint starting, with boards holding firm. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with only the odd spot. Very Good
