Bound in red cloth and black boards, stamped in red. Solid copy with 50 cent mark on flyleaf, otherwise, no writing or markings in the book, 1266 pp.
This was Jones second book following international success with his first book, From Here to Eternity (1951). He spent the next 6 years working on this his second novel. Scribner did a first print run of over 12,000 copies. Reviews were mixed and sales were less than striking. No worries, Jones had already sold the movies rights to MGM. The movie starred Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
