Sobre este artículo

Durham, NC: Duke University Press, 1991. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. Durham, NC: Duke University Press, 1991. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 255 pages. Landmark collection of essays. One of the finest books on its subject ever written. The first appearance of the title in English and in the United States. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly the Softcover Edition. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only by a University Press. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Ariel Dorfman's "Some Write To The Future: Essays On Contemporary Latin-American Fiction" in a felicitous English translation. A brilliant and indispensable collection. Incisive, insightful, and highly provocative essays on some of the greatest Latin-American writers. Among them: Jorge Luis Borges, Alejo Carpentier, Miguel Angel Asturias, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, to whom the erudite Ariel Dorfman devotes a chapter apiece. One of Chile's finest writers, Ariel Dorfman has lived in exile in the United States since the bloody collapse of the Allende Government in a US-sponsored coup whose principal architect, Augusto Pinochet, has since died in disgrace. As his title implies, the ultimate greatness of Latin-American literature is that its greatest writers were writing with posterity, that is to say with literature in mind, rather than just the bottom line or immediate popular success. A great English novelist has memorably described the work of Ariel Dorfman as that of a writer "capable of seeing God in the vertigo of experience" (John Berger) . An absolute "must-have" title for Ariel Dorfman collectors. This title is a late-modern classic. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Should NOT be confused with the Softcover Edition. Copies available online have serious flaws, are subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ARIEL DORFMAN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0822311305.
