Eleven verses and a chorus, in part: "As the Buff: was going up Walnut Street, The Philly Engine they chanced to meet, Says they my boys give us no talk, For the Phil'a is the 'cock of the walk.'" .... The Washy, Philly, and Franklin Hose, The Buff: can whip if they dare oppose; For those three companies need not talk, For the Buffalo is the 'cock of the walk.'" Typographic ornamental border. 9.5" x 4.75". Slight edge chipping, no text loss. Sealed in archival mylar. [Wolf, American Song Sheets, 218.] This song refers to the Philadelphia fire-company riots of the 19th century, which led the City Council to eliminate the volunteer fire-company system.
