Sobre este artículo
(London: Blackwood, Le Bas & Co. , no date). Seven Royal 8vo volumes (250 x 185 mm each); half red morocco and cloth sides; spines lettered in gilt; line borders and spine compartments blocked in gilt; marbled edges and endpapers; pp. xi + (i) + 200, viii + 201 + (iii), viii + 200, viii + 216, viii + (ii) + 199, viii + (ii) + 216, xvi + 214; numerous illustrations in text, plates and maps, incl. folding. This set includes the supplementary seventh volume covering "The Guerilla War: From February 1901 to the conclusion of hostilities; the development of peace negotiations from February 23, 1901, to May 31, 1902", and provides a complete history of the War itself. Creswicke's eighth volume, which looks at the future of South Africa, is not included. Covers somewhat rubbed, with flaking of spine ends and corners; backstrip of seventh volume missing (simple duct tape repair); scattered light foxing; occasional archival tape reinforcing to gutters. Good condition. Hackett's 'South African War Books: An illustrated bibliography' lists the editions by T.C. & E.C. Jack of Edinburgh, by The Caxton Publishing Co. of London, and by The Publishers Syndicate of Toronto (pp. 80, 139), the pagination of which corresponds with this Blackwood edition. "A comprehensive history of the war in six volumes, with supplementary vols. VII & VIII dealing with the guerilla campaign and South Africa and its future. Vols.I-VII contain a chronological table of events and various appendices, including extracts from official correspondence, casualties, deaths from disease, biographical notes of eminent persons engaged in the war, and a list of recipients of the Victoria Cross. Vol. VII has a table showing composition and distribution of columns operating in various sectors from Feb. 1901. The volumes are illustrated throughout with folding (and other) maps, photographs and drawings, including numerous colour plates. An attractive and informative work." - Hackett, p. 80 .
