This book covers every phase of ornamental horticulture in southern California. From 1769, when the Franciscan fathers began planting their first mission garden at San Diego de Alcala, until the date of publication (1961), this book tells the story of growth and growing in the region for more than six generations, and includes details of the lives of some of the pioneer horticulturists including Ozro W.Childs and Joseph Sexton.
