This album is the first attempt to systematize the history of Soviet cinema: from the Civil war newsreel to full length movies. It includes a brief descriptions and some screenshots from the following movies: Red Devils (1923, by Ivan Perestiani), The Extraordinary Adventures of Mr. West in the Land of the Bolsheviks (1924, by Lev Kuleshov), Aelita (1924, by Yakov Protazanov), Kino-Eye (1924, by Dziga Vertov), Battleship Potemkin (1925, by Sergei Eisenstein), October: Ten Days That Shook the World (1927, by Sergei Eisenstein), Man with a Movie Camera (1929, by Dziga Vertov), St. Joren's Day (1930, by Yakov Protazanov), Road to Life (1931, by Nikolay Ekk, the first sound film in the Soviet Union), Boule de Suif (1934, by Mikhail Room), Jolly Fellows (1934, by Grigoriy Aleksandrov, the first Soviet musical film), Alexander Nevsky (1938, by Sergei Eisenstein), etc.
One of the compilers of this book was Pera (Perl) Atasheva (1900-1965), an actress, translator, journalist and Sergei Eisenstein's wife.
