Notas y descripción extendida

This exceedingly rare book chronicles the 1914 Major League Baseball season culminating with the four-game World Series sweep of the National League's Boston Braves over the American League's Philadelphia Athletics. A chapter entitled "Little Sketches of World Series Players of 1914" encompasses a b/w photo and biographical paragraph of the participants. Tyrus R. Cobb of the Detroit Tigers led all of major league baseball in 1914 with a batting average of .368 and is featured with a full page photo. Other articles include the "Discovery of Curve Pitching" which credits William Arthur Cummings with being "considered the first curve ball pitcher". Very few paperback books of this era are known to have survived. The 1914 season also marks the debut of George Herman (Babe) Ruth, who split the season with the Boston Red Sox (shown on the roster on page 185) and also led the Providence Grays to the 1914 International League Championship. He is included in the team picture for Providence in this book on page 196. Ruth's name was mis-pelled in the Providence roster on page 187 as Geo. Roth.
