1681 English Civil WAR 1ed Dugdale Troubles in England French Wars of Religion

William Dugdale was 17th-century English historian known for his works of antiquity of English aristocracy and monastics. While not his most notable work, 'Troubles in England'
is a treatise written to describe the wars that influenced Europe and England during the 17th-century. Dugdale correlates three wars – English Civil War, Barons' War, and the French Wars of Religion – and how they related to each other. Interestingly, the DNB notes that this work was "written throughout in a strain of animosity to all who took the anti-royalist side." However, this work isnotable for its accuracy.

1697 SECRET History of White-Hall Stuart House SPY Letters Charles II Jones

A rare collection of 'secret history' letters on English royalty and the Stuart House

David Jones's 'Secret History of White-Hall' is a detailed history of the House of Stuart, focusing primarily on the major events of the 17th-century. Jones recognized that the English public had a strong desire to understand the inner workings of the Stuarts and decided to capitalize on the taste for secret court memoirs, which had been largely censored prior to 1695.
This collection contained memoirs of various events such as the Sale of Dunkirk to Louis XIV, battles in the Anglo-Dutch War, and James II's diplomacy in Flanders and Holland.
According to Snyder, these works were written in the form of letters written at Paris to a noble lord, a much-used device. Furthering on that, Bullard notes that 'Secret History'
"…scrutinizes the conventions of secret history to provide an acute analysis of this form of historiography. Jones's… Leer más

Descripción:
Bruxelles, Melines, Cans... 1854. This is the official French version of the history of the Italians (Beaumont-Vassy does not admit to an Italy) from 1815 to 1850. In his version, the Congress of Vienna served to establish Austrian dominance in the Italian states. Austrian misrule resulted in dangerous unrest among Italians, which resulted in an unfortunate revolution. Fortunately, the French Army at Rome suppressed the irresponsible brigands led by Garibaldi, and the future, under benign French supervision, will restore tranquility to the peninsula. This copy is from the library of Nicholas Brown, Minister of the United States to Rome in 1848-50, whose sympathies were with Italian republicans. Hard Cover. 2 p.l., 292 pages, leather spine, very good copy. Stock#OB383.
