A remarkable collection of 17 signed linocuts in sensational color heightened with watercolor of folk toys made in Vienna by the students of Josef Hoffmann. In 1899 he was appointed professor at the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Applied Arts). He was a founding member of the Vienna secession and co-founder of the Wiener Werkstatte in 1903 where he stayed until 1931. Wooden toys include toy soldiers, decorative pieces, animals and birds, many of them moveable. Several designers of these toys became important in the design world, including Christa Ehrlich, Gertrud Hochsmann, Wilhelm Rosler and Fridl Steininger. A beautiful and important collection..
